There is panic in Lira city as a 12 years old girl suspected to be an Ebola patient died from the hospital yesterday while vomiting blood.
According to the district surveillance officer, Kalisto Amodo, the 12 years old girl who was rushed from Abia in Apala sub county, and was admitted at Lira Regional Referral Hospital Tuesday 27th September 2022 and isolated but later died, vomiting blood after a short while.
Dr Misinde Ronald head Community Health department, Lira Regional Referral Hospital,s aid they liaised quickly with WHO Regional office that helped them and the blood sample was transported to Kampala yesterday night. He expects results any time from now.
“Let us wait for the results, the public does not need to worry. It is only until the results of the tests are out, that is when we can tell what exactly the girl died of,” Dr Misinde said.
The Principal Medical Officer Lira City, Dr Benard Otucu told the committee of the task force that they have already set up different sub-teams to handle Ebola in case of the outbreak including; the burial team, logistic, infection prevention and control, case management team, and surveillance but all shall be headed by the RCC Lira Lawrence Egole. He said people can at the moment call the toll-free line provided by the ministry of health.
He told members of the Lira city Ebola task force today that there is yet no cause for alarm as they are waiting for the result of the death.
It was attended by members of the media fraternity, the acting town clerk, Deputy RCC Betty Kalumba for Lira City west Division, Deputy RCC Lira City East Division, the deputy mayor, the Uganda Red cross staff and other development partners among others.
