Federisi Akankwasa, the commercial officer of Kabale Municipality, has been apprehended after months of evading arrest for allegedly defrauding a local resident.

Akankwasa is accused of misleading and issuing a bounced cheque of UGX 49 million to Leo Mbabazi, a resident of Kigongi B” cell. According to reports, Akankwasa sold Mbabazi a property in Kakoba, Mbarara City, for UGX 550 million in December 2022. Mbabazi made a deposit of UGX 100 million.

However, Akankwasa reportedly breached the agreement and resold the property to another buyer. Instead of returning Mbabazi’s deposit, he allegedly only reimbursed UGX 50.25 million and issued a cheque for the remaining UGX 49 million, which bounced in February 2023.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed that the case was filed on March 13, 2023, and Akankwasa was finally arrested in Katuna. He is currently detained at Kabale Central Police Station while the investigation continues.
