Uganda Releases Names of 57 Alleged Terrorists Killed in DRC Airstrikes

KAMPALA, Uganda – Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, on December 13th, revealed a major success in the ongoing operation against Ugandan-linked terrorist groups operating from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Following a series of targeted airstrikes, Museveni confirmed the deaths of over 200 militants, including several high-ranking figures.

The attack, carried out on September 16th, 2023, was meticulously planned, with targets identified through both technical and human intelligence. Museveni explained, “While the attack itself brought swift results, it’s the human intelligence that provides the names and faces behind the carnage.” Today, he unveiled a list of 57 individuals confirmed dead, including the notorious Kabuye Bashir, the overall commander of the terrorist group.

The list paints a chilling picture of the group’s composition, revealing names like Mutagubya Ismail (second in command), Julius, and Kaze Huziaru. The inclusion of women like Nusifa Maga and Mundoki Shakira further shatters the myth of a monolithic male-dominated terror organization.

This operation marks a significant victory in the fight against terrorism in the region, offering a glimmer of hope for increased stability. However, Museveni cautioned, “This is not the end. We must remain vigilant and continue our relentless pursuit of these criminals until every life is safe from their reach.”

Beyond the immediate impact, the revelation of the names raises important questions about the group’s structure, motivations, and potential connections. The authenticity of the names remains open to investigation, but their release sparks a crucial conversation about understanding and dismantling these dangerous networks.

Museveni’s address serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle against terrorism and the vital role of intelligence in dismantling these groups. With the names of these fallen militants now exposed, the fight for lasting peace in the region enters a new, critical phase.
