A prominent opposition figure in Kasese district,  Mesach Kanyoma  mobilizer for the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Kibiri parish, Kasese district, has announced his defection to the National Unity Platform (NUP).

This news, confirmed by NUP coordinator Hon. Jackson Mbaju Kathika, is being seen as a major boost for the party’s presence in the area.

Hon. Kathika hailed Kanyoma’s move as a “Christmas gift” to NUP, expressing confidence that his mobilization skills will significantly strengthen their campaign efforts in Kibiri parish.

Explaining his decision, Kanyoma, who previously served as FDC’s publicity secretary for Muhokya subcounty, cited increasing internal divisions within the party as a key factor. He feels his contributions have become less effective due to the current political climate within FDC, a party he once held in high regard.

Kanyoma’s defection has sparked discussion within the local political landscape. He has called upon his former colleagues in FDC to consider similar shifts, urging them to prioritize the interests of the community and align themselves with “more relevant opposition parties for the good of Uganda.
