Yesterday afternoon, on December 14, 2023, residents of Karumena village along the Kisoro-Mutolere road were shocked to discover the lifeless body of one of their own in the shop of his friend. The deceased, identified as Bihame Derrick from Bucece village, Kirundo sub-county in Kisoro district, had spent the night in the shop of his friend, Ntirubabarira Andrew, who was attending the burial of his father in Kirundo sub-county.

The shop owner’s landlord, Henry Hashakimana, also known as Baba, informed our reporter that he and others received information from the deceased’s wife, Uwimana Rachael, who was concerned about her husband sleeping until midday. Hashakimana added that upon receiving this distressing news, a resident, Baker, who operates a salon in a room adjacent to the shop, peered through the window to investigate the situation.

Hashakimana revealed that Baker, upon peering through the window, discovered a lifeless body with the head on the floor and the legs on the bed. Baker then looked through the ceiling to access the door and opened it. After this shocking discovery, Hashakimana promptly notified the local LCI, who authorized them to report the matter to the police.

Henry Hashakimana’s account was followed by confirmation from Karumena LCI chairperson Daudi Line, who elaborated on the incident. Daudi Line stated that the lifeless body had no visible bruises but exhibited signs of blood, suspected to have bled from the nose.

Daudi went on to caution against the spread of rumors, expressing concern that such misinformation might incite violence among the community. He emphasized that this was not the first instance of a similar case in the area, citing another unidentified man whose life had ended in a similar manner.

The statement by Daudi Line served as a warning against rumour-mongering and concluded the account of the unfortunate incident.
