Gulu, Uganda; Unidentified armed men have on 19th of December 2023 shot dead a UPDF soldier from his business premise where he operates a mobile money at around 9:45pm at Lacor trading Centre, Bardege-Layibi Division in Gulu City.
The deceased has been identified as Ojok Bonny, a UPDF officer and a teacher of Gulu Army secondary school.
According to reports from witnesses and other relevant sources, it’s alleged that two-armed gun men allegedly dressed on Army green jackets travelling on a motorcycle with yet to be identified number plate disguised as customers attacked, stubbed and shot in the stomach the deceased, Ojok while at his mobile money business point at Lacor trading center.
They allegedly robbed him of his two phones and a back bag containing an unspecified amount of money and other belongings.
The victim was immediately rushed to St Mary’s Hospital Lacor by boda men where he succumbed to the bullet wounds.
ASP Ongom David Mudong, the Public Relations Officer of Aswa West police in his press release stated that Police investigators at Lacor Police Post under Gulu City West have registered a double incident of murder by shooting and aggravated robbery under vide SD REF. 31/19/12/2023.
Mudong added that the Crime Scene was visited by SOCO, a team of police detectives and flying squad personnel commanded by the Division Police Commander of Gulu City West, adding that, 2 cartridges were recovered at the scene and other items of evidential values to guide in the process of investigations.
He further stated that no arrests have been made as the assailants took advantage of the darkness to flee from the scene through the corridor on a standby motorcycle.
Police condemned the cowardly attacks on innocent and unarmed civilians as they constantly remind the mobile money dealers and other business proprietors to take extra vigilance by acquiring security guards around their business locations.
Mudong said members of the public should remain calm and cooperate with the security forces with relevant information that can lead to the arrest of the culprits so that they are brought to book.
