President Yoweri Museveni will deliver his end-of-year address to the nation on December 31, 2023, starting at 8 pm, according to a statement from the Presidential Press Unit (PPU). The address will be broadcast live on radio, TV stations, and online platforms, with the public encouraged to tune in.
The President spent his Christmas holiday with his family at his country home in Rwakitura, located in Uganda’s western district of Kiruhura. Departing Entebbe on Christmas Eve, he was accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni.
During his stay in Rwakitura, President Museveni met with Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, the former deputy chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of Sudan. The President shared insights into their discussion on the current situation in Sudan via a post on social media.
Three days after Christmas, President Museveni disclosed that the First Lady had tested positive for COVID-19 but reassured the public that she is recovering well. His own test returned negative.

In his pre-Christmas message at State House Entebbe, President Museveni discussed five key points. Firstly, he addressed international pressure on Uganda’s stance against homosexuality, emphasizing the country’s ability to stand independently. Secondly, he expressed gratitude to the DR Congo president for allowing Uganda to combat ADF terrorism in Congo.
The President also emphasized the importance of wealth creation through commercial agriculture and called for a united effort against corruption. Finally, Museveni underscored the significance of regional integration and concluded his message by wishing everyone a happy end to 2023 and a joyful 2024.
