The government has successfully acquired the land designated for the construction of the Kisoro Industrial and Business Park in Kisoro District, Uganda. The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) secured the land title and marked the borders, clearing the way for upcoming construction.

Robert Mukiza, the Director General of UIA, confirmed that while the progress is on track, the next steps involve finalizing the feasibility study and financing plan for the industrial park. Mukiza expressed gratitude to the Kisoro district authorities for allocating 620 acres of land in Kibaya, Bunagana, and Rukundo Towns for this development.

During the 2023 Isangane Festival, an annual celebration of Bafumbira culture and heritage, Mukiza, speaking as the Chief Guest, assured the community that UIA had obtained the necessary land title and initiated a feasibility study. He emphasized that the next phase involves discussions on financing the construction of the park.

Mukiza reiterated his commitment to realizing the industrial park dream for Kisoro, aligning with President Yoweri Museveni’s vision for the economic development of the region. The Isangane Festival, organized by the Ubuntu Bafumbira United Association, focuses on supporting maternal health care in the hard-to-reach Health Centre III in Kisoro District.

President Museveni approved the establishment of 25 industrial parks across all sub-regions in the country in May 2021 as part of the national industrial agenda. These parks play a crucial role in promoting industrialization, with 15 already established in the last six years, including ones in Mbale, Kapeeka, Buikwe, Njeru, Namanve, Jinja, Soroti, Kampala Industrial and Business Park, Luzira Industrial and Business Park, and Bweyogerere Industrial Estate.

The government allocated 130 Billion Shillings in October 2019 to facilitate the establishment of 20 zonal industrial parks nationwide, demonstrating a strong commitment to industrial development.
