First Lady Janet Museveni, who also serves as the Minister for Education and Sports, has successfully overcome COVID-19 and is now out of self-isolation. President Yoweri Museveni shared this uplifting news on January 1, 2024, expressing gratitude for the prayers and announcing that all of Janet Museveni’s recent test results from Mbarara were negative.

President Museveni, in his statement, mentioned that he had personally undergone COVID-19 testing, and his results remained negative. He also sought clarification from Health Minister Jane Aceng regarding whether the virus spreads more through touching soft parts of the body with infected hands than through breathing.

Providing background, the President disclosed that Janet Museveni started feeling unwell on Christmas Day, prompting a series of tests. Although the initial Rapid Corona test was negative, a subsequent PCR test returned a positive result. Consequently, Janet Museveni went into self-isolation at one of their residences in Rwakyitura.

President Museveni recounted his recent engagements, including meeting Sudanese General Hamdan Daglo, and emphasized the importance of safeguarding against the virus, particularly by sanitizing frequently-touched surfaces like door handles and tables.

The First Lady’s successful battle against COVID-19 was hailed, with President Museveni expressing appreciation for her bravery. He concluded the statement by signing as Yoweri K. Museveni, Gen (Rtd), Ssaabalwanyi.
