Pastor Aloysius Bugingo narrowly escaped a targeted attack in Namungoona, Rubaga Division of Kampala, recounting how he was shot in the back and left shoulder. The assailants ambushed his vehicle at Bwalakata Junction in Kasubi, a Kampala suburb, as he was returning home with his bodyguard, Corporal Richard Muhumuza. Tragically, Corporal Muhumuza, a member of the elite Special Forces Command, lost his life during the attack.

In a gathering at his residence in Wakiso District’s Nakedde Village, Namayumba, Pastor Bugingo revealed the harrowing details of the incident to members of his church. He displayed his injuries, illustrating where he sustained a gunshot wound while taking cover under the steering wheel as bullets rained through the vehicle.

The pastor expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Corporal Muhumuza, calling him irreplaceable and vowing to support the fallen soldier’s family. The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, with Pastor Bugingo mentioning his commitment to a cause without elaborating on the specifics.

Since the incident, a continuous stream of well-wishers, including members of the House of Prayer Ministries International led by Pastor Bugingo, government officials, and neighbors, have visited the Namayumba home to offer condolences and support. The somber atmosphere persisted as believers commended Pastor Bugingo for his counseling efforts and spiritual guidance, especially during challenging times.

Recounting the moments after the attack, Pastor Bugingo revealed that his immediate instinct was to drive towards Lubigi Wetland, but he changed his mind due to fear of another assault. Instead, guided by a higher force, he sought refuge at Mulago National Referral Hospital, choosing it for safety over nearby private facilities.

Despite the swift medical response, both the pastor and Corporal Muhumuza arrived at Mulago soaked in blood. Sadly, doctors declared Corporal Muhumuza dead shortly after their arrival. Pastor Bugingo paid tribute to his dedicated bodyguard, describing him as a part of his family who had been committed to his job for the past 10 months.

Amidst expressions of gratitude for surviving the ordeal, Pastor Bugingo urged Ugandans to refrain from mocking others’ troubles, harbor forgiveness, and avoid negativity. He emphasized the unpredictability of life and the need for prayer and support during challenging times.

At the same gathering, senior police officer Apollo Kabandize shared Pastor Bugingo’s account, revealing that the attackers targeted him when he slowed down at a road hump. Corporal Muhumuza is set to be laid to rest in his ancestral home in Ssembalule District today, marking the end of a chapter that has left the pastor and his community grappling with the aftermath of the traumatic incident.
