The murder case involving the widow of businessman Henry Katanga and four other suspects resumed today at Nakawa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kampala. Henry Katanga died from a gunshot wound following a domestic altercation with his wife, Molly Katanga, at their home in Mbuya on November 2, 2023.
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Jane Frances Abodo charged Molly Katanga with murder, accusing her of killing her husband. Additionally, charges of destroying evidence were filed against Patricia Kakwanza and Martha Nkwanzi for tampering with the crime scene. George Amanyire and Charles Otai face charges of being accessories after the fact of murder for allegedly assisting the suspects in evading punishment.
Molly Katanga, who was injured during the incident, remains hospitalized at International Hospital Kampala, while the other four suspects are in Luzira Prison awaiting further investigations.
During today’s court session before Nakawa Court Chief Magistrate Elias Kakooza, the status of the ongoing investigations into the matter will be discussed.
According to a preliminary police report, the fatal shooting of the 61-year-old businessman was reported on November 2 at Bugolobi Police Station. The report details that Katanga was found lifeless in a pool of blood on the mattress in the master bedroom, with an apparent gunshot wound to his head. The daughter of the deceased reported witnessing a heated argument between her parents, followed by a gunshot in the bedroom. Upon entering, she discovered her father injured and her mother unconscious. The family rushed Molly Katanga to IHK Hospital for treatment before the police arrived.
The police report also mentions the recovery of a CZ99 compact pistol with the serial number UG16222 00061 at the crime scene.
