President Yoweri Museveni is set to address the nation on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 8:00 pm, according to a statement released by the Presidential Press Unit (PPU). The address will focus on updating the public on the progress of operations against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorists and other security-related issues.
The President’s announcement comes in the wake of recent terror threats and attacks, with the ADF suspected to be behind incidents such as the attacks in Kamwenge district. President Museveni, on Thursday, December 28, 2023, warned the ADF rebels, asserting that they would not disrupt the harmony in Uganda and impose sharia law. He emphasized Uganda’s strong heritage and rejected the idea of transforming the country into a European or Arab nation.
In expressing gratitude, President Museveni acknowledged the support of Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Tshisekedi. Tshisekedi permitted the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces and Congolese forces operating under Operation Shujaa to pursue the terrorists within the DRC jungles. Despite facing pressures from saboteurs, Tshisekedi allowed Uganda to counter the ADF from inside the DRC.
Museveni’s address will be delivered from his country home in Rwakitura and is scheduled to be broadcasted live on all radio and TV stations, along with online platforms. The statement from the PPU indicates that the President will provide updates on the ongoing efforts to counter the ADF threat and address broader security concerns.
