The Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) has announced a delay in releasing the results of the 2023 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). Uneb Spokesperson Jennifer Kalule disclosed that the release, typically expected before January 20, is pending confirmation from the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni.

Kalule explained that Uneb has requested an appointment with Minister Janet Museveni for a briefing before officially releasing the results. As of Monday, there has been no response from the minister. Therefore, Kalule could not confirm a release this week.

Primary school managers anticipated the release this week, given the absence of any disruptions during the examination process. The early release of PLE results allows parents and school managers to plan for the next level of education for their children.

Muzamiru Musembya, the director of Buwenge Blue Day and Boarding Primary School, expressed surprise at any potential delay. He highlighted the importance of early results for parents in planning secondary school choices and for school directors in attracting new pupils based on Primary Seven performance.

By press time, the Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary, Ketty Lamaro, had not responded to requests for comment on the matter. A total of 749,347 pupils, including 391,558 females and 357,789 males, sat for the 2023 PLE.
