Heads of State Arrive in Uganda for IGAD Summit

Several Heads of State have arrived in Uganda to participate in the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Heads of State and Government meeting and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit. Notable leaders present include South Sudan’s Salva Kiir Mayardit, Djibouti’s Ismail Omar Guelleh, and Somalia’s Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

The IGAD summit is scheduled for Thursday, January 18, at State House Entebbe, while the NAM summit, taking place at Speke Resort Munyonyo, commenced on Monday, January 15, and will conclude on January 20.




President Salva Kiir of South Sudan, upon his arrival at Entebbe International Airport, was welcomed by State Minister for Regional Affairs John Mulimba and Simon Juach Deng, the Ambassador of South Sudan to Uganda. Notably, South Sudan was officially admitted as a new member state of the Non-Aligned Movement during these events.




President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti landed at Entebbe International Airport, where he was received by Jacob Marksons Oboth, the Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs. Additionally, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia was welcomed by Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs.
