Professional golfer David Kamulindwa from Uganda remains a strong contender for a spot in the upcoming Magical Kenya Open, following his impressive performance at the Limuru Golf Club during the fourth leg of this season’s Safari Tour. Meanwhile, Kenyan golfer Dismas Indiza secured victory in the tournament.
Kamulindwa showcased his prowess by recording 12 birdies and an eagle over the four rounds, finishing joint seventh with Kenyan Mohit Mediratta. This achievement added 34 Safari Tour points to his tally, bringing his total collection to 111 points after the completion of four legs.
Despite a commendable performance, Kamulindwa emphasized the ongoing tight competition for the Magical Kenya Open slot. He expressed satisfaction with his play but acknowledged the need for improvement in putting before the upcoming tournaments at Muthaiga Golf Club and Karen Golf Club.
Other Ugandan players who made the cut, Ronald Rugumayo and Rodel Gaita, finished joint tenth with a total of one-over 289. Abraham Ainamani tied in twelfth with C.J Wangai on 290 each. Gaita, initially in fifth place, slipped in the last round, but both players earned their first tour points (29 each) and a joint cash prize of sh1.78m.
To secure a chance of qualifying for the Magical Kenya Open, Rugumayo and Gaita must now finish in the top three positions in the remaining two events. However, Kamulindwa and Ainamani stand better chances if they make the cut and finish in the top five positions in the remaining legs, grabbing the second slot for non-Kenyans.
The overall standings are currently led by Kenyan Dismas Indiza with 213 points. Indiza rallied from six strokes behind in the last round to win the Limuru Safari Tour leg, edging out Zimbabwean Visitor Mapwanya, who finished second. Indiza’s outstanding performance included hitting 20 birdies and a closing round of 7-under 65, earning him sh3.5m.
The top eight Kenyan nationals and two foreign pros at the end of all the tours will have the opportunity to compete alongside established professionals in the sh4b-Prize-Money-European Tour Magical Kenya Open scheduled for February 22-25.
