The Kanyanya Territorial Police has taken into custody Mr. Kato John Ssenfuma, a 40-year-old teacher from Mityana, residing in Mukono District. The arrest follows accusations of attempted defilement involving a 15-year-old student from the school where Mr. Ssemfuma teaches.
The arrest was initiated after a complaint filed by Ms. Sheilah, a 26-year-old resident of Kyebando Erisa Zone in Kawempe Division, Kampala District, and the guardian of the 15-year-old student. Ms. Sheilah brought to light Mr. Ssemfuma’s communication with the juvenile through WhatsApp, leading to the family’s decision to set a trap for the teacher.
On January 13, 2024, Mr. Ssemfuma was invited to the family’s premises, where he was apprehended upon arrival. Despite the seriousness of the allegations, an examination by a Police Surgeon confirmed the well-being of the victim, as the intended activity did not occur.
Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire revealed that the case file has been submitted to the office of the Resident State Attorney. The Kanyanya Police has received guidance on the next steps, with the file pending resubmission for sanctioning. The suspect, Mr. Ssenfuma, is expected to face charges determined by the Prosecution.
