State Minister of Finance (General Duties) Henry Musasizi Ariganyira has revealed that the government is planning to tarmac the 47 km Hamurwa-Keerere-Kanungu road.
Hon. Musasizi, who doubles as Rubanda East MP and Rubanda District NRM Chairman, was speaking today at the send-off ceremony of Ms. Maricela Kanjenyenka in Mukadongo Village, Mpungu Parish, Hamurwa Subcounty.
The late Kanjenyenka died at the age of 102. She had 28 grandchildren and 68 great-grandchildren.
“Our plan is to tarmac the road from Hamurwa up to Kihiihi in Kanungu in the near future,” Musasizi said.
He also revealed that the government had spent up to UGX 500 million repairing the damaged part of the road at “Hakagyezi,” and another UGX 3 billion would be spent on repairing the damaged part of the Kabale-Kisoro road at Hamurwa.
Rubanda District LC.5 Chairman Stephen Kasyaba said that they had already started utilizing the UGX 1.5 billion recently received from the Central Government to maintain roads, including Rwondo-Nyakatare in Hamurwa Subcounty. He also said that the next repairs would be done on the Kashongati-Nyamasizi road, still in Hamurwa Subcounty.
“The tractor you’ve seen at Rwondo is just from Ruhiija Subcounty, where we have also been doing some road works. Now we are starting works at Rwondo,” he said.
Kasyaba added that the plan was to enable people to easily transport their agricultural products and other trade items to the market centers.
