The wife of the deceased Kampala businessman, Henry Katanga, has been arraigned in court and charged with the murder of her husband. In a wheelchair and under tight security, Molly Katanga was brought to the Nakawa Chief Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning, where murder charges were read against her.
According to the prosecution, on November 2, 2023, at Mbuya, Chwa 2, in Nakawa Division, Molly Katanga maliciously killed her husband, Henry Katanga. Following this, Nakawa Chief Magistrate Erias Kakooza committed Molly Katanga to the High Court for trial.
She now joins four other individuals, including Katanga’s daughters, who have previously been charged over the murder. Martha Nkwanzi and Patricia Kakwanza, the family shamba boy George Amanyire, and medical practitioner Charles Otai were earlier committed to the High Court for trial after the conclusion of investigations.
The prosecution alleges that on November 2, 2023, at the family’s residence on Chwa 2 Road in Nakawa division, Kampala, Nkwanzi and Kakwanza intentionally removed, destroyed, or concealed certain items with the knowledge that they could be required as evidence in a judicial proceeding. This was done to prevent their use in the case.
Amanyire and Otai are accused of aiding the other accused individuals in evading justice by hiding any form of evidence related to the matter. The charges highlight a complex web of accusations surrounding the murder case, with multiple individuals now facing legal consequences.
