The Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Mama Janet Museveni, has unveiled the #PLE2023 results at State House Nakasero.
A total of 749,254 candidates from 15,859 centers registered for PLE in 2023, marking a decrease from 832,654 in 2022. Among them, 501,602 (66.9%) were Universal Primary Education (UPE) beneficiaries, while 247,652 (33.1%) were non-UPE candidates.
Notably, 88,269 candidates (10.4%) received Division U, a concern as it may contribute to the school drop-out statistics. Certain districts, including Kibuku, Madi Okollo, Dokolo, Kween, and Namisindwa, show percentages above the national average. Further investigation is essential to identify and address the causes.
The overall performance of candidates in 2023, especially in Divisions 3 and above, is comparable to that of 2022. Division U is awarded to candidates who fail to reach the minimum performance level for at least a Division 4, making them ineligible for Senior 1 class admission.
Performance of Prison Inmates
The Uganda Government Upper Prison School in Luzira had 69 candidates registered, a slight increase from 2022. Of these, 60 candidates sat for the exam, with 2 passing in Division 1, 32 in Division 2, 15 in Division 3, 5 in Division 4, and 6 were ungraded. Nine candidates did not sit for the examination.
In response to concerns about impostors, UNEB cautions against fraudsters targeting head teachers and school directors, allegedly offering assistance to improve grades or remove schools from suspected malpractice lists.
According to the UNEB Act, 2021, the Board will withhold results of affected candidates pending investigations. The Examinations Security Committee will give affected candidates a fair hearing before making final decisions. After tribunal hearings, the list of districts and schools with canceled results will be published.
Collection of Results
Results will be available on examination center portals for schools to download officially. District, Municipal, and City Inspectors of Schools can collect hard copies from UNEB offices at Ntinda starting January 29, 2024. SMS on mobile networks is also available for instant results.
