The shooting of Pastor Aloysius Bugingo earlier this month has taken a new turn, with Ugandan Police revealing clues about the weapon used and potential suspects. Tragically, the attack in Kampala’s Namungoona-Lubaga Division also claimed the life of Bugingo’s bodyguard, Richard Muhumuza.
Authorities, spearheaded by the Kibuli-based Special Investigations Division (SID), have launched a comprehensive investigation and offered a substantial 20-Million-Shillings bounty for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
While speaking at a regular security press briefing, Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga acknowledged receiving crucial leads from the public. He stressed the importance of thorough verification before taking any further action: “The public shall be informed on the progress,” Enanga assured.
Adding a chilling twist to the investigation, forensic experts have confirmed a chilling connection – the bullet that struck Pastor Bugingo is the same weapon used in the May 2023 killing of blogger Isam Olaxes (Isma Tusubira) near his home. Despite this link, the Olaxes case remains unsolved, with no arrests made after more than seven months.
This weapon link fuels speculation about a potential connection between the two high-profile attacks, raising further questions and urgency in both investigations.
With a promising bounty in place and public cooperation, the hope is that both cases will see significant progress soon.
However, the unsolved Olaxes case casts a shadow over the Bugingo investigation, highlighting the challenges Ugandan authorities face in tackling such high-profile crimes.
