Business activities came to a standstill for nearly 8 hours as the Adjumani-Sinyanya-Obongi ferry road became impassable on Thursday morning, prompting road users to petition the Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) of Adjumani, Mr. Taban Peter Data, and Obongi district, Mr. Samuel Mpimbasa Hashaka, to intervene with UNRA for urgent road renovations.

By Thursday morning, over 40 vehicles were stranded, and passengers faced disappointment due to the deplorable state of the road connecting Adjumani to Obongi via Sinyanya.

When contacted, RDC Taban Peter Data of Adjumani district informed our reporter on the phone that he has already communicated with the Director of Road Engineering at UNRA, based in Moyo at the UNRA sub-station. By press time, his teams were on the ground to assess the situation.

The Ankole Times learned reliably that by 2:00 PM on Thursday, over 40 vehicles were stuck on the road.

RDC Samuel Mpimbasa Hashaka of Obongi district stated that his office, along with the MPs of Obongi and the district chairperson of Obongi, have informed the office of the Executive Director of UNRA about the dire situation along the Sinyanya-Adjumani road. Hashaka emphasized the urgency of a solution for the smooth movement of people and goods.

“I wrote to UNRA and RDC Adjumani about the matter. Our two Members of Parliament (MPs), Hon. Zumura Maneno and Hon. Dr. Bhoka, and district chairperson Obongi, Hon. Abib Buga Khemis, also communicated with the UNRA team in Moyo sub-station,” said Hashaka.

He reassured the people of Obongi district and Adjumani to remain calm as UNRA has taken up the issue. Hashaka mentioned that metallic culverts have already been assembled, and he promised to follow up for a speedy process.
