The Judiciary has concluded preparations for the upcoming 25th Annual Judges Conference, scheduled to commence on Monday, February 5, 2024, and conclude on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Serena Hotel in Kampala. Themed “A People-Centered Approach to Justice,” the conference will bring together Justices from the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and High Court, along with Registrars, Deputy Registrars, and Assistant Registrars.
Justice Mike Chibita, a member of the organizing committee, addressed journalists on Thursday, expressing that the conference serves as an annual platform for justices to assess the previous year’s performance and strategize for the future, aiming for best practices in the administration of justice.
He emphasized that the primary goal of the conference is to evaluate the judiciary’s performance in 2023, facilitate the exchange of views and experiences, and obtain feedback on the implementation of recent legal reforms and enactments.
Justice Chibita highlighted that the event provides an opportunity for judicial officers to discuss strategies for integrating the formal justice system with alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. Additionally, it serves as a forum to address the issue of case backlog, seeking insights on effective resolution.
