The Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) has announced the successful connection of the last of the six units at the Karuma hydropower project to the national grid.

The UEGCL, responsible for the development and operation of the 600-megawatt plant in Kiryandongo district, confirmed the milestone through a tweet on its official Twitter account.

Unit 5 was synchronized to the national grid at 9:18 am, marking the completion of all operational tests for readiness.

The hydropower plant comprises six units, each boasting an installed generation capacity of 100MW. The first unit was synchronized in March of the preceding year.

With the connection of the final unit, the stage is set for the commissioning of the flagship generation plant, slated for this year.
