Abim District, Uganda: Abim LCV Chairman, Captain Omara Yuventine, commonly known as ‘Adyeda,’ is expected to hand over office to Lawyer Ariko Jonny De West after losing a case on Tuesday morning.
The court of appeal case in the election petition number 007 of 2021 was filed in Soroti High court circuit, and the first ruling by the Court was on 9/3/2023, which nullified his election on the grounds that the respondent (LCV Omara Yuventine ‘Adyeda’) did not resign from Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) during his nomination before being voted to office on the 14th of January, 2021, general elections.
However, Captain Omara Yuventine went and filed an election petition in the court of appeal number 04 of 2013 challenging the decision of the High court ruling reached in Soroti High court that nullified his election as the duly elected LCV chairperson of Abim district in 2021.
In their ruling (honourable court of appeal judges) that was reached on Thursday, February 13, 2024, three different judges of the court of appeal, namely; Justice F.M.S Egonda-Ntende, Justice Bumegeremire Catherine, and Honourable Justice Eva K. Luswata, made their final ruling/decree in favour of Ariko Jonny De West in regard to concluding it that “the two parties shall meet their costs of this application”. That “the court found merit in the matter raised by the applicant (De West) in his application, and it is allowed. By order of the Court, pages 11 to 16 of the respondent’s (Omara Yuventine) supplementary records of appeal are struck out for not forming part of the records of the High court”.
In a telephone interview with the outgoing LCV Chairman Abim district, Captain Omara Yuventine “Adyeda” told our reporter on Tuesday afternoon, saying that ‘he has done his part for three years and he feels happy because the ‘Ethur people’ or ‘Jabwor’ have judged him, and he is willing to hand over the office to Ariko as the next Chairman of Abim district local government and directed by court.

He said, “the fight has been a long organized political set up but some people, Jabwor, know better about him as a peacemaker, and therefore, he feels the three years were okay for him to have delivered to the people; let De West take over from there.”
Ariko De West could not be reached by our news team as his known phone number was unavailable by press time.
Abim district borders Otuke of Lango sub-region in the East and Agago district of East Acholi.
