The Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala has absolved former Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, Moses Kafeero, of involvement in the controversial demolition of St. Peter’s Church in Ndeeba.

The demolition of St. Peter’s Church on August 9, 2020, orchestrated by court bailiffs on behalf of businessman Dodovico Mwanje, sparked widespread condemnation and led to the arrest of several individuals, including Mwanje and police officers.

During court proceedings, it was revealed that Moses Kafeero had received documents authorizing the demolition after the church had already been razed. Testimony from then-Sergeant Stephen Ouma, now an Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP), indicated that Kafeero was not aware of the impending demolition and had distanced himself from the process.

A memo presented as evidence to the court outlined Kafeero’s disassociation from the demolition, stating that he had received the documents after the incident had occurred and had no prior knowledge of the situation. Additionally, AIP Ouma testified that Kafeero was not present in the office on the day of the demolition, further corroborating Kafeero’s lack of involvement.

Further examination revealed that the documents authorizing the demolition were presented by SSP Rashid Agero, who was later arrested in connection with the incident. Agero’s actions raised questions about the concealment of the documents and the motive behind their presentation after the demolition had taken place.

Despite initial suspicions and widespread condemnation of the demolition, the court’s findings exonerate Kafeero from any wrongdoing in the Ndeeba Church saga. The proceedings shed light on the complexities surrounding the case and underscore the importance of thorough investigation and due process in legal matters.

As the case unfolds, questions remain about the circumstances leading to the demolition and the actions of those involved.
