A section of beneficiaries under the Emyooga projects in Gulu District received well-designed T-shirts from the RDC’s office on February 14, 2024, for excellent implementation of the project. In a meeting organized by the Office of the President in Gulu District, held at the Community Boardroom, Madam Alice Akello Opio, the RDC, together with Deputy RDC Afande Cosmas James Okidi, jointly officiated the meeting, arguing that the initiative is to motivate and encourage others who are not performing well to pick up.
In an interview with Ankoletime reporter, the Deputy RDC remarked that the Gulu Emyooga SACCO is relatively performing well, with the exception of a few group members showing a bad example by not refunding the money. “I am happy they have been singled out in the meeting, and these are the people our office will deal with accordingly so that the project achieves its intended objective of job and wealth creation.”
“The Presidential initiative on Wealth and Job Creation (EMYOOGA) is a program aimed at availing seed capital to financially excluded Ugandans engaged in specific and similar specialized enterprises/categories,” explained the DRDC.
In summary, the District received additional seed capital of Shs. 40,000,000 for the best-performing SACCOs, making the grand total Shs. 600,000,000, with over 1200 beneficiaries. Other files have already been submitted to the Micro Finance Support Centre for funding. The two best-performing SACCOs are those for veterans and fishermen.
“There have already been several successes registered in the implementation of Emyooga in Gulu District, and as the office of the RDC, we are ready to offer all necessary support needed by beneficiaries to meet the intended objectives. We further thank and appreciate the President of the Republic of Uganda, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for his wise intervention that would see every Ugandan moving into a money economy, thus promoting better well-being and increasing income-generating activities and household incomes.
