RDC Threatens to Ban Scrap Business in Buliisa

Buliisa, Uganda: The Buliisa Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Longino Bahebwe Byagagaire, has threatened to ban scrap business following numerous cases of theft, including vandalism of road signs.

According to Bahebwa, scrap collectors sell the vandalized road signs and sell them to scrap dealers. He is optimistic that the ban on scrap business will curb theft and vandalism of road signs.




In an exclusive interview, on Tuesday evening, Bahebwa expressed concerns over criminals vandalizing road signs, saying this has contributed to the increased cases of road accidents in the district.




‘’It’s unfortunate that people are vandalizing road signs, and this has also been attributed to rampant road accidents in the district.’’




Over five people have lost their lives and dozens have been injured as a result of accidents in the oil-rich Buliisa district.

On the 17th of this month, one person died on the spot while the other two were critically injured after they rammed into a truck on a long Kisomere-Kasenyi road in Ngwedo subcounty Buliisa district.

On January 4, 2024, at around 8 p.m., three people were knocked dead at Walukuba conjunction along Hoima Buliisa Wanseko road; two died on the spot, and another one died shortly after arriving at the hospital.




Again, on January 18, 2024, a Sino truck with registration number UBM 039 knocked dead Prisca Anirwoth on Buliisa Wanseko Road on a

motorcycle while heading to Panyimur to follow up on her fish reportedly being impounded by the Fisheries Protection Unit (FPU).

On January 24, Bigirwenkya Antwaani Musiimo was also knocked dead in Kimbabura village along Buliisa Ngwedo Road as he was on his way home. This prompted angry residents to torch the motor vehicle.




On January 25, 2024, an unknown vehicle knocked dead Moses Aliganyira along Hoima Biiso Buliisa Road.
