According to recent reports, Ibrahim Ssemujju, a prominent figure within the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Party, has spoken out about the ongoing deliberations concerning the fate of the Katonga faction within the party. The decision on whether this faction will remain unified with or separate from the Najjanankumbi faction of the same party remains uncertain. Ssemujju, while addressing the issue, has criticized President Museveni, accusing him of employing a strategy of divide and rule within the party.

Dr. Kizza Besigye, another influential figure in the FDC, has praised Ssemujju Nganda, the Member of Parliament for Kira Municipality, for his efforts in advocating for the opposition’s principles. Besigye commended Ssemujju for consistently representing and upholding the values and objectives of the FDC. This commendation underscores the significance of Ssemujju’s role in the ongoing discussions regarding the party’s future.

The Katonga faction of the FDC has initiated a consultative process to determine its path forward, whether to remain within the larger Najjanankumbi-led faction or to pursue an independent course. These consultations are anticipated to reach a conclusion within a span of two months. The outcome of these deliberations will have significant implications for the internal dynamics and unity of the FDC as a political entity.

The perceived need for autonomy and alignment with the core principles of the FDC are likely driving forces behind the Katonga faction’s contemplation of separation.

As discussions progress and stakeholders within the FDC engage in dialogue, it remains to be seen how the party will navigate this period of uncertainty. The outcome of the consultations will undoubtedly shape the future trajectory of the FDC and its role within Uganda’s political landscape.
