The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) of Gulu, Mr. James Cosmas Okidi, reiterated the importance of the presidential message on wealth and job creation. He relayed this message on Monday, March 11th, 2024, which was originally delivered during Women’s Day celebrations at Katakwi Bomah ground in Katakwi District.
Speaking on radio Speakfm in Gulu, the DRDC highlighted four key sectors of the economy emphasized by His Excellency the President during his address on International Women’s Day. “We need to wholeheartedly embrace and support these four sectors of the economy: agriculture, industrialization, services, and ICT for the country to thrive economically,” Cosmas remarked.
He emphasized the significance of agriculture, stating, “Agriculture employs the largest population of this country, which is why so much money is being invested in it.” He mentioned initiatives such as Emyooga, PDM, OWC, micro-scale irrigation, and UWEP aimed at supporting farmers in commercial production.
Furthermore, he addressed the importance of industrialization, noting that this sector thrives when there is sufficient agricultural output to support manufacturing and processing plants.
The DRDC also discussed the services sector, highlighting developments such as the upgrade of health centers, rural electrification, road construction, and the establishment of regional industry hubs. These initiatives aim to promote vocational and skills development, providing job and wealth creation opportunities for the youth.
Finally, he emphasized the significance of the ICT sector, pointing out the increasing role of digitalization in various aspects of life, including online earning opportunities such as betting and electronic office work.
In conclusion, the DRDC called upon the general public to embrace and support the presidential ideas concerning the four sectors of the economy, emphasizing their importance in driving social-economic transformation in Uganda.
