On March 16, 2024, the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) announced the commencement of repair works on one lane of the Kireka-Namugongo road in Kampala. This decision follows a public notice issued by UNRA on March 12, 2024.
The purpose of these maintenance works, according to UNRA, is to improve the road’s surface condition and safety. The aim is to ensure satisfaction and comfort for all users of the road. The repair works are scheduled to conclude by the end of May 2024.
UNRA outlined the scope of the physical works, which include resurfacing the main carriageway and installing road safety facilities. During the repair period, traffic will be restricted to one lane, while the other undergoes maintenance. Additionally, certain sections of the road will experience temporary closure during Asphalt concrete overlay operations. In such instances, traffic will be redirected to nearby alternative routes. To aid road users, both the Traffic Police and the contractor’s safety team will be present on-site to provide assistance.
It’s worth noting that the company responsible for these repairs is Stirling, the same company currently engaged in the construction and repair of the Northern Bypass. This indicates a continuation of their involvement in infrastructure projects within the region.
