Kapelebyong Government School Operates with 20 Desks

The education department in Kapelebyong district is grappling with a lack of infrastructure for learners.

The few dilapidated infrastructures have greatly contributed to poor academic performance every year in the Teso region.

“As I talk right now, Obalanga Primary School is here, you all know how it’s struggling, Kapelebyong Primary School is about to collapse; this is the issue affecting us,” said Akorikin.

The Kapelebyong district chairperson, Francis Akorikin, has encouraged all the district leaders to unite as a team and explain to the government about the inadequacy of learning facilities they face.

According to Akorikin, Kapelebyong is in a serious struggle in terms of learning classrooms both in primary and secondary schools across the district.

“We are struggling with dilapidated structures without desks,” he said.

He was quick to note that Odiding Primary School operates with only 20 desks.

“Children in this school write using their thighs as support from P1-P6; by the time PLE comes, the handwriting greatly makes learners lose marks,” noted Akorikin.

He says though they received 120 million this year as a capitalization grant, it’s not enough to meet the over 100 schools they have in the district.

Akorikin notes that the leaders in Kapelebyong should stop politicking and instead address the key issue at hand as a reason they represent people in different positions.
