Kole North MP Opio Acuti Raises UGX 130 Million for Church Construction

On March 16, 2024, a joyous Saturday at St. James Wigua Church Archdeaconry Headquarters in Aboke Town Council, Kole District. After a prolonged wait spanning over five years, the community’s aspiration to roof their church was finally realized, courtesy of a successful fundraising event.

The event garnered a total of UGX 130 million from the congregation and well-wishers across the country. Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti, the MP for Kole North, led the fundraising efforts as the Chairperson of the organizing committee.




The well-attended function drew dignitaries from various spheres, including politicians, businessmen, civil servants, religious leaders, and more. Notably, the Speaker of Parliament and MPs contributed UGX 50 million in cash. Several families also made significant donations, such as the David and Hellen Egel Opito family, who contributed $2,000 (UGX 7,749,000), Dr. Anthony Natif with $1,000 (UGX 3,800,000), and Rose Okello Obote and family with UGX 4,000,000.




A notable contributor was Levi Omara, based in Kampala, who covered the costs of all roofing sheets and accessories for the church. Additionally, over 30 dignitaries donated over UGX 1,000,000 each, while the Lango community in the diaspora contributed UGX 7,000,000.




MP Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti expressed gratitude to the more than 400 people who contributed to the fundraising effort. “I believe this is an answered prayer for St. James Wigua in their earnest endeavor to build God’s house. I praise God for His provision,” he remarked.

“The funds are expected to cover the church’s roofing and additional necessary works,” added Dr. Acuti, outlining the purpose and allocation of the raised funds.
