Bishop Wilson Kisekka, 53, has been officially enthroned as the fourth Bishop of Luweero Diocese, with a resounding call for peace and unity to prevail once more within the diocese. The ceremony was led by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Stephen Kaziimba, and was attended by several Bishops who gathered at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Luweero town.

During the enthronement, President Yoweri Museveni, represented by the Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, emphasized the importance of unity among the Christians in Luweero. His message echoed a sentiment of harmony and collaboration within the diocese.

Following President Museveni’s address, the Prime Minister of the Buganda Kingdom, Charles Peter Mayiga, conveyed his gratitude to Archbishop Kaziimba for his efforts in stabilizing the diocese amidst past turbulence. Mayiga’s message, delivered by the speaker of Buganda’s Lukiiko, Patrick Mugumbule, expressed appreciation for the Archbishop’s role in resolving conflicts that arose during the election of a new bishop.

The retirement of Bishop Eridadi Nsubuga marked a significant transition period for Luweero Diocese. Subsequently, Canon Godfrey Kasana was elected as the new bishop, but this decision was later nullified on June 28, 2023, due to allegations of infidelity.

In the aftermath of these events, the provincial church faced challenges as a faction of Christians resorted to legal action against the church. However, on March 6, 2024, Bishop Kisekka, who was then serving as a canon, was elected by the House of Bishops to lead Luweero Diocese.

In his inaugural speech, Bishop Kisekka pledged to collaborate with all stakeholders to advance the development of the diocese. He outlined key priorities, including mission and evangelism, discipleship, environmental conservation, institutional and infrastructural development, healthcare promotion among clergy and laity, support for family life, responsible management of church land, and the promotion of education.

The enthronement of Bishop Kisekka signifies a new chapter in the history of Luweero Diocese, characterized by a renewed commitment to unity, peace, and progress under his leadership.
