Lira City tycoon, Bwana Geoffrey Etwop, has gained a lot of support shortly after declaring his intention to contest as Lira City NRM party chairman.

News reaching the Ankole Times newspaper has it that Mr. Geoffrey Etwop, a renowned NRM treasurer for Lira City and a popular businessman, is being proposed to go unopposed as NRM party chairman of Lira City.

Last week, Mr. Etwop Geoffrey narrated that he has decided to declare his interest to contest and hopefully win the Lira City NRM chairman position in the forthcoming party elections that will be conducted in a few months.

Mr. Etwop, who is a politician and a renowned businessman/long-serving NRM Party treasurer, is gaining a lot of early support from NRM members from the beginning of the NRM registration exercise.

Etwop has transformed the lives of many young people in Lira City through his business ventures.

At the core objective of his politics is his keen interest to effectively represent the common man, defend and protect the NRM party ideology and principles as seen in the NRM core manifesto.

While talking to our reporter in an interview on Friday, Geoffrey is set to improve grassroots mobilization of party members, popularize the NRM manifesto, government wealth creation strategy, and above all, to amplify the NRM National Chairman’s initiative for socio-economic transformation and lobby for more development in Northern Uganda.

Mr. Etwop, who declared his interest in the position shortly after registering as an NRM party member, says he is ready to compete with other contenders for the same position in case anyone else is vying for it.

Etwop is seen as the best candidate for that position since he has a high lobbying capacity and political exposure via President Museveni.

He intends to transform not merely the way NRM is perceived in a hostile environment, but also the underlying assumptions that NRM is a party for those at the fringe of society and mere self-seekers, whereas not.

He pledges to mobilize and ensure that the voice of the voiceless people in Lira Lango is heard so that members of the NRM Party and the general community are attended to, as well as to strengthen and promote NRM Core values in line with the president’s vision on commercial agriculture.

“I have been in business and politics for a long period of time, and my skills and abilities have been tested and trusted in politics through mobilization, investment, and encountering political challenges that I have always overcome.”

Mr. Geoffrey promised to represent the people of Lira City, and as the Chairperson NRM, he will be able to lobby and influence decisions, mostly about economic, social, cultural, and political development of Lango sub-region and Northern Uganda as a whole.

The party is set for elections, an exercise that will see, among others, NRM Party members electing new office bearers from grassroots level to regional vice-chairpersons for Northern, Eastern, Central, and Western Uganda in the coming days.
