A man had his hands severed with a machete allegedly by a pastor after being apprehended for theft on church grounds, as per statements presented in a South African court.

Christian Solomon Mhalanga, 58, reportedly responded aggressively when his son Enoch, 20, discovered Dumisani Mahalngu, 29, admitting to theft on the premises of the Vosman church at dawn.

Mhalanga contacted his father, Apostle Solomon, who arrived in a van and bound Mahalngu’s arms and legs before transporting him to a remote area outside Vosman.

The pastor, accompanied by his son and four members of the congregation, purportedly restrained Mahalngu and positioned his hands over a tree branch, threatening to punish him for his actions.

According to Mahlangu’s account to Emalahleni police in Mpumulanga Province, he was subjected to two blows from a machete, resulting in the severing of both hands, causing severe bleeding before the assailants departed.

After an extensive investigation, authorities arrested the accused individuals on March 27, and they appeared in court on Thursday facing charges of attempted murder and kidnapping.
