Mpuuga Pays Respects to Late Sarah Eperu Amidst Criticism

Mathias Mpuuga, the embattled Deputy President of the National Unity Platform (NUP), recently joined comrades in paying respects to the late Sarah Eperu, who passed away a few days prior. The former Leader of Opposition in Parliament described the late as a woman of many talents, and a leader dedicated herself to the struggle for a better Uganda. Mpuuga reminisced about their close collaboration, particularly during the Walk 2 Work campaigns and the Activists for Change (A4C) movement. He expressed sorrow at her passing, highlighting her dedication and hard work, which will be said dearly missed.

Despite the somber occasion of Sarah’s funeral, some individuals within the online community directed criticism towards Mpuuga. They specifically referenced allegations that he received a bribe of 500 million Ugandan Shillings, casting doubt on his involvement in the ‘struggle’ mentioned in his tribute to Sarah.




Various users took to social media to express their discontent. One user, under the handle Ziggy questioned Mpuuga’s credibility in the struggle, insinuating that his acceptance of of a large and illegal sum of money contradicted his supposed commitment to combating corruption. Others echoed similar sentiments, demanding the return of the alleged bribe and citing biblical verses on the love of money.




However, amidst the criticism, there were also voices of support for Mpuuga. Some users commended him and his colleagues for honoring Sarah Eperu’s memory, acknowledging her contributions to the country. Despite the controversy surrounding Mpuuga, these individuals emphasized the importance of recognizing and cherishing Eperu’s dedication to a better Uganda.




In response to the allegations and criticisms, Mpuuga has remained focused and has stated mant times in various languages that he will not resign as Deputy President in his “own Party”.

In attendance were prominent opposition politicians, including Eria Lukwago of FDC and John Ken Lukyamuzi. among may others.
