The National Unity Platform (NUP) has extended its heartfelt appreciation to its United States based chapter for their generous contribution of seven million Uganda Shillings (Ugx 7,000,000). This fund was raised to cover the school expenses of the children of NUP members who are currently detained by the Ugandan “regime”.

In a show of solidarity, the NUP US chapter mobilized financial support within their community to alleviate the financial burden faced by the families of detained comrades. According to the party statement on X, the initiative reflects the commitment of NUP members, both locally and abroad, to support one another in times of need.

Additionally, NUP has encouraged individuals who wish to further assist the families of these detained comrades to contact the welfare office at the party’s headquarters in Kavule. This initiative, they say, aims to ensure that the families affected by the detention of their loved ones receive the necessary support and assistance during challenging times.

NUP boasts significant diaspora communities and chapters across various regions, including Boston, Florida, the EU, Sweden, Washington DC, Seattle, United Kingdom, Turkey, Sweden, and Minnesota. These diaspora chapters play a vital role in the party’s activities and initiatives, including fundraising efforts to support its members in Uganda.

One of the key initiatives facilitated by NUP’s diaspora communities is the Welfare Management fund. This fund serves as a resource pool intended to provide financial assistance to party supporters who have been incarcerated due to their involvement in advocating for political change and opposing the current regime.

A statement on the opposition party website states that the contributions made by NUP’s diaspora chapters underscore the global reach and impact of the party’s mission and values. “They demonstrate the collective effort of NUP members worldwide to stand in solidarity with their fellow comrades and their families, emphasizing the importance of unity and support within the party’s community, both at home and abroad.”
