A delegation of National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders from Wakiso district convened for a cordial meeting with the party’s Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, at his offices located on plot 10 Kyadondo Road, Nakasero. The atmosphere was congenial as discussions centered on party affairs and strategies for bolstering support in the region.
Expressing gratitude for their steadfast support amidst challenges, Todwong commended the Wakiso district leaders for their unwavering loyalty to the NRM government. He particularly discouraged the practice of contesting as independents against official party flag bearers, highlighting its divisive impact on party cohesion and support base.
Addressing concerns about electoral processes, Todwong assured the gathering that measures had been taken to ensure a clean voters’ register, minimizing the likelihood of issues encountered in previous elections. This move aimed to enhance transparency and credibility in party primaries and electoral processes.
Hon. Rosemary Seninde, the Director of Mobilisation at the NRM, advocated for Wakiso district’s elevation to regional status, akin to Kampala, citing its considerable size and population. She underscored the district’s significance and suggested that its divisions be considered as separate districts for administrative efficiency and enhanced mobilization efforts.
In a display of solidarity, the leaders lauded Todwong and the NRM Secretariat for fostering inclusive leadership and promoting unity among party members. They particularly commended recent initiatives, such as the comprehensive update of the party’s membership register, as examples of proactive engagement and inclusivity within the party structure.
Pledging their continued commitment to grassroots mobilization and recruitment of party supporters, the Wakiso district leaders affirmed their dedication to advancing NRM’s agenda at all levels.
