Museveni Launches National Patriotism Environmental Protection Campaign

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni inaugurated the National Patriotism Environmental Protection campaign today at Kitebi Secondary School in Rubaga Division, Kampala.

In his address during the launch, President Museveni expressed his satisfaction with the campaign, emphasizing its focus on conserving the environment.




He stated, “People who intrude into wetlands, lakeshores, or river banks pose a threat to the nation.” The President applauded the initiative to remove such encroachments and promised compensation for those affected, especially in Bukedi, Kigezi, and Busoga.




President Museveni also highlighted the significance of patriotism in fostering prosperity. He urged citizens to prioritize the interests of the nation over personal ones, emphasizing the need for socio-economic transformation through education and productive endeavors.




Moreover, he reiterated his call for government schools to cease charging fees, asserting that free education is crucial for national development. He commended Kitebi Secondary School for maintaining low fees, setting an example for others.

Additionally, President Museveni advised students to safeguard their futures by avoiding behaviors that could jeopardize their prospects.

First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, commended Kitebi Secondary School for promoting patriotism and implementing government programs effectively. She emphasized the campaign’s role in raising awareness about combating global warming.




Minister for Presidency, Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, assured the President of the Office of the President’s support for the Patriotism Secretariat’s initiatives, including environmental conservation efforts.

Ms. Hellen Seku, the Commissioner for Patriotism, outlined the campaign’s objectives and implementation plan, stressing the importance of safeguarding natural resources for future generations.

She urged citizens to actively participate in tree planting and waste management efforts while addressing issues such as HIV/AIDS prevention and corruption through patriotic values.




Head Teacher Hajj Mohammed Kamulegeya expressed gratitude to President Museveni for selecting Kitebi Secondary School as the campaign’s venue, affirming its status as a model institution for Universal Secondary Education.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Minister for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, and Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority, Ms. Dorothy Kisaka, among others.
