Kampala, Uganda – The daughter of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Obongi, Mr. Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, has graduated with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Kampala University. Sharon Muneza is one of over 4,000 graduates who received their degrees from Kampala University at a ceremony presided over by Chancellor Professor Mondo Kagonyera at the Gaba Lake View main campus on Thursday.
In an interview with our reporter, Sharon Muneza thanked her father for allowing her to pursue a career in journalism like him and for funding her tuition. She also promised to join the campaign to elevate journalism as a respected profession in developing Uganda and to advocate for the rights of the voiceless. She challenged government officials to consistently provide information about government-funded programs to journalists so that they can disseminate it to the Ugandan public.
RDC Obongi Samuel Mpimbasa Hashaka advised parents to ensure that all their children have access to education without discriminating against girls.
Earlier at the graduation ceremony, Chancellor Kampala University, Professor Mondo Kagonyera, urged the graduates to uphold professionalism and discipline in their careers. Professor Mondo also expressed gratitude to Kampala University for its reputation as one of the best universities in Africa.
