On a Sunday afternoon, His Excellency Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert, accompanied by a group of party leaders, attended the NUP party Foot-soldiers’ Tournament held in Bugiri district. The event, a widely attended football game, was organized by the sports department led by Buken Ali, also known as Nubian Li.
Dressed in his distinctive red overall attire, the President received a warm welcome from the enthusiastic crowd, who had eagerly awaited his presence since last year when the #NUPCountryWideTour was initially interrupted due to sabotage by the ruling NRM regime.
During his address, the President strongly denounced corruption within the government and criticized opposition leaders who prioritize personal gain over the welfare of the people they represent.
“Anyone you see collaborating with the oppressor, I urge you to withdraw your support from such individuals. They are only interested in their own interests. Our mission remains steadfast. Comrade Nubian has stated that the root of this country’s problems is Museveni. No amount of money can bribe the people of Busoga to solve all their issues,” he stated, amidst cheers from the crowd.
He further questioned the effectiveness of bribing leaders in Busoga to address various pressing issues, including evictions in fishing communities, rising sugar prices affecting outgrowers, and the declining state of healthcare and education.
The President urged the public to ostracize politicians who collude with the ruling regime, emphasizing the fear that President Museveni harbors towards the NUP movement. He highlighted the regime’s attempt to buy off political leaders but asserted that the youth, adorned in revolutionary overalls, instill fear in the regime.
“When you observe a politician betraying the cause, mark them as unreliable. Museveni trembles in our presence. Now that he sees our youth dressed in revolutionary attire, he panics and resorts to buying off political leaders,” he added.
