Two Obongi district officials have been kidnapped at gunpoint and taken to Yumbe district, disrupting the census exercise in Obongi. The officials kidnapped are a census enumerator in charge of Koch Boma village in Itula sub-county in Obongi district, Farouk Edema, and the Chairperson LC1 of the same village, Mr. Taban Sulaiman. The incident took place at around 10:00 AM.

According to the enumerator, a group of people led by the subcounty chief of Romogi subcounty in Yumbe district put him at gunpoint, slapped him, threw him down, stepped on his head, removed his UBOS tab, bag, and motorcycle key, and forced him to sit on a motorcycle which took him to Romogi subcounty headquarters in Yumbe district.

The same Yumbe officials also put the LC1 Chairperson of Kochi Boma at gunpoint and forcefully kidnapped him, taking him on a motorcycle to Romogi sub-county headquarters.

The RDC Obongi Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, ARDC Habiba Furaha, DISO Elyebu Denis, and district Chairperson of Obongi, Abib Buga Khemis, led a team of Obongi district officials to Romogi sub-county headquarters in Yumbe district. They rescued the captives and directed the police to investigate the matter.

Efforts to contact the Aseko, the Yumbe LCV Chairman, for his side of the story were futile by Saturday morning as his phone number was unavailable.
