The Adjumani-Sinyanya-Obongi ferry has broken down, leaving schoolchildren and travelers stranded. Two out of three of the ferry’s engines failed on Sunday.
According to the Obongi Resident District Commissioner, Hasaka Samuel Mpimbasa, confirmed to our reporter that over 150 pupils and various other categories of learners are stuck trying to access schools since they were relying on the ferry.
Hasaka stated that the propeller of the ferry was struck by a stone due to the lower level of the River Nile. He urged UNRA Moyo and Gulu to assist the two districts of Adjumani and Obongi by providing an excavator this week.
He called upon the public to remain calm as the ferry will not be functioning for the entire week.
The RDC cautioned boat owners to be careful and avoid overloading people. One of the boat owners has mentioned they will be using life jackets.
