Patrick Okidi, Lira District – The Won Nyaci Elect of Lango Cultural Foundation, His Highness Dr. Eng. MM Odongo Okune, has confirmed to the media that preparations are in high gear as the date for his consecration draws nearer. “Lango at the moment is a very united people, focused on unity and development, not disunity,” said Won Nyaci Elect Michael.
Dr. Eng. MM Odongo Okune, who is in his early 50s, appreciated the team of Itogo, Clan heads, the media, and all the executives of Lango Cultural Foundation for their various contributions.
Meanwhile, Mr. Geoffrey Etwop, the Awitong for Ober Clan, calls for unity, peace, harmony, and massive support as Lango welcomes the installation of the new Cultural leader on November 2, 2024. He emphasized that only a few individuals, not more than eight among the clan heads out of over 140, cannot interfere with the majority who have elected Dr. Eng. Michael Odongo Okune.
Geoffrey Etwop also assured Lango that the new Won Nyaci (elect) will assume office on November 2, 2024, regardless of the few dissenting voices.
A prominent clan head of Atek Okwero-Ibwur clan from Alebtong district, Mr. Okullu Okeng Patrick, has called upon all the people of Lango to honor the recently concluded election of the new paramount chief (Won Nyaci), Eng. Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune, as he awaits to assume office on November 2, 2024.
Another Awiting, who requested not to be named, emphasized that anyone with ill intentions towards the just concluded election of March 1, 2024, will waste their time, as Lango as a tribe is now moving forward, not backward.
According to ‘Awitong,’ Mr. Geoffrey Etwop, whoever opposes the plan to install Wanyaci Elect among the Lango tribe will not be tolerated or entertained within the cultural setting of Lango. He urged members of Lango living in the diaspora to proudly identify themselves with the Lango tribe without fear, as the new paramount chief of Lango, His Highness Eng. Dr. Michael Odongo Okune, is now a legally elected cultural head of the Lango Cultural Foundation who will bring glory to all the clans in Lango without segregation.
He also called upon all Lango tribe members, including those living in the diaspora, to generously contribute towards the coronation of the new Wonyaci, Dr. Eng. Moses Michael Odongo Okune.
According to Mr. Etwop, the people of Lango sub-region should embrace unity and reconciliation instead of resorting to organizing another clique which may not help.
One of the clan members who preferred not to be named echoed that whoever is against the election outcome is against the Lango cultural setting and will not prevent the consecration.
Okullu Okeng commended the Won Nyaci-elect, Dr. Eng. Moses Michael Odongo Okune, to unite all the different clan heads in Lango sub-region and diaspora and the entire Lango community for the realization of development. Additionally, Mr. Okullu urged the people of Lango Sub-region to fully participate in the consecration of Won Nyaci Elect as a major upcoming event in November.
The speaker (Won tok) of Lango Cultural Foundation, Willy Omodo Omodo, has narrated that about 2.8 billion shillings have been budgeted for by the council of Owitong.
