The National Unity Platform (NUP) has released a statement expressing gratitude to the people of Masaka for their warm reception during their recent visit on May 31, 2024. They thanked the community for their overwhelming support and emphasized their determination to stand on the right side of history, despite challenges.

The statement conveyed deepest condolences to the families of three Ugandans who tragically lost their lives in an accident near Maya. NUP clarified that the accident occurred after their convoy had left the area. They urged the police to swiftly conduct thorough investigations to determine the cause of the accident.

In accordance with their tradition, NUP reached out to the families of the deceased, some of whom were staunch supporters of the party, and offered them support during this difficult time.

NUP also addressed a recent statement by Mr. Fred Enanga of the police, where another ban on their activities was announced. They expressed disappointment at the partisan nature of the ban and emphasized their commitment to responsible conduct. NUP questioned why similar bans were not imposed on other political groups and urged the police to conduct fair and unbiased investigations into the accident.

Despite these challenges, NUP reiterated their willingness to engage with the leadership of the Uganda Police on any issues, as they consider themselves law-abiding citizens.

As a mark of respect for the fallen comrades and their families, NUP decided to postpone their scheduled activity in Mityana for the following week. They assured the public that they would release a new schedule in due time.

NUP concluded the statement by assuring the people of Uganda that despite setbacks, their mobilization efforts would continue unabated, reaching every corner of the country.
