Police in Rwizi Region and Mbarara Central Police Station are holding two suspects accused of torturing and attempting to murder a 16-year-old peasant boy.
The suspects, 17-year-old Kamuhanda Evans and 43-year-old Kamukama Apollo, both from Kaliba cell, Bubaare sub-county, are alleged to have buried their victim, Amanya Charles of Kabujye cell in Sheema district, alive.
According to Police Spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga, the incident occurred on May 28th, 2024, at around 10:00 am. The suspects accused the victim of stealing their phones and tied him to a tree before subjecting him to torture.
Enanga further stated that later that night, the two suspects dug a shallow grave and buried the victim. Fortunately, the victim managed to crawl out and reach a nearby shack where he stayed for two days. He was discovered on May 30th, 2024, and taken to the police before being transferred to Bubaare Health Centre for treatment.
“It is extremely saddening that the victim was held captive, tortured over a missing phone, and dumped in a shallow grave by his co-workers,” said Enanga. “He was fortunate to survive such a horrific ordeal.”
The Police Spokesperson added that the two suspects are facing charges of torture, conspiracy to commit murder, and attempted murder.
Efforts are underway to apprehend any remaining suspects involved in this crime and ensure they are brought to justice. Enanga urged the public to respect the rule of law and avoid such acts of violence.
