MIAMI — On Monday morning, firefighters in Miami were called to battle a massive fire at the Temple Court Apartments, a complex primarily housing elderly residents. The fire began around 8:15 a.m., as reported by the City of Miami Department of Fire-Rescue.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the building engulfed in flames. They faced numerous challenges due to the building’s elderly occupants, many of whom had difficulty evacuating. Rescue teams worked tirelessly to save several residents, with some being evacuated from their balconies.
During the operation, two firefighters suffered from heat exhaustion and received treatment. The intensity of the blaze forced the fire crews to switch to a defensive strategy, fighting the fire from the outside to protect their safety and control the spread of the flames.
The situation took a dramatic turn when a man was discovered inside the burning building with a gunshot wound. The Miami Police Department confirmed this as the only critical injury at the scene. Authorities are currently investigating whether the gunshot was self-inflicted or if there was foul play involved.
Local police also issued a warning for civilians to avoid the area around Lumus Park, as the fire posed significant health hazards due to smoke and potential structural damage.
