This afternoon, the Anti-Corruption Unit – State House Uganda, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, brought Asiimwe Annah before the Chief Magistrates Court in Mbarara. She faces charges of Obtaining Money by False Pretense, Forgery, and Uttering False Documents.

The accused, Asiimwe Annah, allegedly impersonated the biological daughter of the Late Bishop Paul Bakyenga. Under this false pretense, she deceived several individuals into giving her significant sums of money, claiming she would facilitate the transfer of the Late Bishop’s properties to their names.

It is alleged that Asiimwe Annah fabricated share certificates from prominent entities such as MTN and the World Bank. She also produced falsified letters, purportedly from the Late Bishop and the Catholic Church, indicating that the Bishop owned shares in various corporations, including World Bank, MTN, Ford Motors, and multiple petrol stations. However, investigations revealed that these claims were untrue.

As a result of these fraudulent activities, Asiimwe Annah acquired millions of shillings from her victims under false pretenses. In light of these charges, she has been remanded in custody until the 9th of July 2024.
