Police in Mbarara City South Division are investigating a suspected case of arson after a fire ripped through a boys’ dormitory at Shuhudal Islamic Secondary School in Nyamitanga cell on Friday morning at around 4AM.

The fire engulfed the dormitory housing 202 students from S.2 and S.3. According to Rwizi Region Police spokesman SP Samson Kasasira, fire and rescue services responded swiftly after receiving reports of the blaze. With assistance from the Nyamitanga Diocese Fire Brigade, they managed to extinguish the flames.

Thankfully, all students housed in the “Dar-es-Salaam” dormitory were able to escape without injuries, with one exception. 17-year-old Baingana Sulaiman sustained injuries to his back and arms during the evacuation.

While the fire caused significant damage to property within the dormitory, the Police Fire Department successfully prevented it from spreading to other school structures.
