South African Woman Sentenced to 3 Life Terms for Killing Boyfriends and Son

A woman has been sentenced to three life terms for the murders of her two boyfriends and her son.

Pamela Selani killed her boyfriend Michael Tshangisa with a hammer, alleging that he had infected her with HIV.

Shortly thereafter, Gift Phiri, another boyfriend with whom she had been cheating on Tshangisa, moved into her house.

In 2017, Selani killed Phiri by feeding him poison and drowning him in a dustbin filled with water, claiming he had assaulted her. She then buried Phiri in the same shallow grave as Tshangisa.

In 2018, Selani killed her firstborn son, Avile Jongwa.

Avile, 17, who was a drug addict, demanded money from Selani and threatened to inform the police about the two murders if she refused.

Selani responded by assaulting Avile with a hammer while her other two children watched.

After Avile collapsed, Selani went outside and instructed her 14-year-old son to stay with Avile. When she returned, the boy reported that Avile had been moving.

Selani then directed the boy to fetch a large rock. Upon his return, she took the rock from him and used it to crush Avile’s skull.

Selani and her son buried Avile’s body in the shallow grave alongside Tshangisa and Phiri.”
